Death By Trinkets (audio version)

on not seeing the collective effects of itty bitty shit bits of plastic at civilisational repetition and planetary scale

It’s Halloween today. This is jarring in Australia, to anyone over the age of 35. One of the things I find upsetting about how Australians have embraced Halloween is the socially necessary use of excessive single-use plastic. To me therefore this is an example of 3S (stupid, stubborn, surreality) in a world where capitalism delivers the goods and delivers the buzz – at a collective cost of the Antichrist arriving in small pieces of broken plastic. This is an Instagram post exploring how this concern is affecting native birds, and not at all affecting most families’ excessive use of single use plastic. This is a link back to the text version I wrote in April (image below). I’m trying audio to see if I like doing it and if it resonates with people. I am recovering from a cold here, as you will here. Apologies; it was an unchosen relation. Let me know if you do like it, by, err, liking it.
